New Jersey Legalizes Online Poker - Poker/Casino/Betting News from BankrollMob.com

On Tuesday, the governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, signed a bill to legalize intrastate online poker in New Jersey, making it the third state to approve such a measure - following Nevada and Delaware.

New Jersey has already received about 20 applications from vendors that want to operate within the state. The bill allows residents of New Jersey to play poker online against other states where intrastate online poker is legal. However, New Jersey is still working on the mechanics of such regulations.

Online betting will also be offered for a ten-year trial period, with taxes on online winnings by casinos being taxed at 15 percent. Gov.Chris Christie's office predicts that the state's casino revenue fund would soar from $235 million this year to $436 next year, due to the new online gambling revenue.

Casino executives believes that it will take between 6 and 12 months to get systems ready for online poker. However, it might take longer than that for real-money games to be offered in the state. Nevada legalized online poker already in June 2011, but still none of its gaming license holders are allowed to offer real-money games.
